LKC offer a range of qualifications, from introductory to advanced levels, designed to equip you with practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and ethical understanding. Whether you’re just starting, enhancing your current role, or aiming for professional practice, our courses provide a clear path for personal and career development.

ICSK-L2 Explained

Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills (ICSK-L2)

This qualification is intended for candidates who want to:

  • Learn basic counselling skills (listening and responding skills) in helping roles

  • Find out more about counselling (this qualification won’t teach them to be a counsellor, but may help them decide whether or not they want to train as one)

  • Improve professional and personal relationships​

This qualification does not lead directly to an employed role. However, it could enhance an existing role or increase the general employability of those seeking to enter the job market.

Guided Learning Hours: 30 hours (minimum)

Total Qualification Time: 51 hours

Credit value: 5

CSK-L2 Explained

Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (CSK-L2)

This qualification is designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge, skills and competencies to use counselling skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles.

This qualification is for:

  • Those starting the first level of training as a professional counsellor

  • Those who want to learn counselling skills in other professional or helping roles

  • Those who want to improve their professional and personal relationships as part of personal development​

This qualification could lead to employment or increase employability for those whose role is to support others in e.g. health and social care work, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work, other helping roles.

It provides additional skills for those already in employment likely to lead to increased opportunities for promotion and advancement.

Guided Learning Hours: 90 hours (minimum)

Total Qualification Time: 170 hours

Credit value: 17

CST-L3 Explained

Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies (CST-L3)

This qualification is intended for candidates who have already acquired a recognised qualification in counselling skills (Level 2 and 3) and want to :

  • Take the next step in training to become a counsellor

  • Learn more about counselling theory, ethics and mental health

  • Be prepared for work as a professional counsellor in an agency setting

This qualification can lead to employment and increases employability for those whose role is to support others in sectors such as health and social care work, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work, and other helping roles. It provides additional skills for those already in employment and is likely to lead to increased opportunities for promotion and advancement towards practitioner-level qualifications (TC-L4).

This qualification will enable successful candidates to work as skilled supporters within a range of job and career opportunities.

Guided Learning Hours: 90 hours (minimum)

Total Qualification Time: 196 hours

TC-L4 Explained

​Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TC-L4)

This two year part-time qualification gives learners the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a therapeutic counsellor in an agency context in both health care and non-medical settings.

Successful completion of this course means you will be able to provide a therapeutic counselling service – initially within the context of an agency’s service framework but later (with experience and support from the supervisor, or by completing PC-L5 or its equivalent) may progress to independent practice.

Qualification Structure mandatory units:

  • Working ethically, safely and professionally as a counsellor (R/600/9346)

  • Working within a counselling relationship (T/600/9355)

  • Working with client diversity in counselling work (J/600/9358)

  • Working within a user-centred approach to counselling (F/600/9472)

  • Working with self-awareness in the counselling process (H/600/9478)

  • Working within a coherent framework of counselling theory and skills (K/600/9482)

  • Working self-reflectively as a counsellor (F/600/9486)

Guided Learning Hours: 420 hours (minimum)

Total Qualification Time: 1204 hours
