TC-L4 Explained

​Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TC-L4)

Level 4 (Two-Year Course) Daytime option: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – 9:30am to 4:30pm (face-to-face) Blended option: Weekend sessions (face-to-face and online via Zoom) Fee: £3,200 per year

This two year part-time qualification gives learners the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a therapeutic counsellor in an agency context in both health care and non-medical settings.

Successful completion of this course means you will be able to provide a therapeutic counselling service – initially within the context of an agency’s service framework but later (with experience and support from the supervisor, or by completing PC-L5 or its equivalent) may progress to independent practice.

Qualification Structure mandatory units:

  • Working ethically, safely and professionally as a counsellor (R/600/9346)

  • Working within a counselling relationship (T/600/9355)

  • Working with client diversity in counselling work (J/600/9358)

  • Working within a user-centred approach to counselling (F/600/9472)

  • Working with self-awareness in the counselling process (H/600/9478)

  • Working within a coherent framework of counselling theory and skills (K/600/9482)

  • Working self-reflectively as a counsellor (F/600/9486)

Guided Learning Hours: 420 hours (minimum) 2 academic years

Total Qualification Time: 1204 hours

ICSK-L2 Explained

This qualification introduces basic counselling skills for helping roles, self-development, or exploring further training. It can support employability or enhance existing roles. (GLH: 30 | TQT: 51 | Credits: 5)

CSK-L2 Explained

This qualification develops safe, ethical counselling skills for beginners, helping roles, and personal growth. (GLH: 90 | TQT: 170 | Credits: 17)

CST-L3 Explained

This qualification builds on Levels 2–3, covering theory, ethics, and mental health preparing learners for counselling roles. It supports career growth in health, care, education, mediation, and other helping sectors. (GLH: 90 | TQT: 196 | Credits: 20)

TC-L4 Explained

This two-year part-time qualification trains learners to work as therapeutic counsellors in agency settings, with the option to progress towards independent practice. (GLH: 420 | TQT: 1204 | Credits: 120)

L5 Explained

This post-qualification trains counsellors to work with children and young people aged 5–18 across schools and private practice, using an integrative model. (Duration: 120 hrs | Cost: £2,276 including supervision and placement)
